Netcare has announced that Mark Bower will retire as chairperson of the healthcare group at the end of September. He will also step down as chairperson of the nomination committee and as a member of the audit, risk, remuneration, social, and ethics committees, also with effect from September 30.

Bower joined the Netcare board as an independent non-executive director in November 2015 and was appointed chairperson in January 2023. The board expressed gratitude and appreciation to Bower for his dedication, outstanding guidance, stewardship, and invaluable contributions over the past nine years.

The group also announced that Alex Maditse, an independent non-executive director, has been appointed the lead independent director. Maditse, who joined the Netcare board in June 2023, has significantly contributed to the group with his extensive business insight and expertise.

Ian Kirk, an independent non-executive director of the board, has been appointed as a member of the audit committee, effective September 30, to ensure that the audit committee remains validly constituted. The group will announce the appointment of a new chairperson and the reconstituted board committees in due course.
